William Cox-Ife greets James N. Healy at Cork airport : graphic.
William Cox-Ife, from D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, was guest musical conductor for Oliver! at the Opera House. On March 24th 1968 he was killed when his flight crashed into the sea off Tuskar Rock, County Wexford. He had been flying from Cork to London enroute to Weston-super-Mare, where he was to conduct 'Gilbert and Sullivan for All' later that day. The Cork Group won the following awards at the festival: Premier award: Gilbert and Sullivan Group of Nigel Hay Productions in 'The Mikado'. Best male voice, runner-up: Richard Mason (Name part in 'The Mikado'). Best actor: James N. Healy (Ko-Ko in the Mikado). Best supporting actor, runner-up: Maurice McMahon (Pooh-Bah in 'The Mikado').
